Political World - August 2008

It is absolutely appalling the discussions taking place to consider increasing the amount of funding for our Australian athletes after a disappointing haul of gold medals at Beijing. We have so many Australians struggling to make ends meet and yet while people are homeless, struggling to feed themselves and their families, we are talking about increasing the funding to pay for athletes who want to compete in a sport. And not all athletes, for example, our netballers are obviously not considered elite sportswomen because netball is not included in the Olympics. Yet BMX riding is included and so is table tennis etc. Australia we need to get our priorities right. I would love to represent my country in the Olympics but I don't have the funds to do so and I don't expect hard-working Australians to pay for my way. Are our Olympians going to pay for my hobbies and for me to have less time at work so I can develop my sporting skills? It is absolutely absurd that millions of dollars are spent on the Olympics.

Pauline Hanson in the News Again! (LINK)

August 17th 2008 10:04
There's a lot I can say about Pauline Hanson but I guess at least she's determined. For someone that has a political career that is an absolute joke, she always seems to pop up. Her racist and unintelligent comments flooded the media years ago. For someone that's not really liked or attractive, it is interesting that she has been approached by Channel 7 to do her own dating reality show. What a joke? Why the hell would you try to get someone like Pauline Hanson to do this show unless of course the show demonstrates what not to say or do when dating? Her suggestion for a date would be to go to a fish and chip shop where Asians are not allowed. C'mon Channel 7 if you want a show that has good ratings do NOT get this racist woman. She is a disgrace to Australia.

It's All About Sex

August 16th 2008 12:55
What a sexist world we live in. Even a huge sporting event like the Olympics has to be dominated by sex. Instead of treating men and women equally, women are still made into sex objects. Our female athletes are dressed in skimpy clothes yet our male athletes more often and not are dressed in baggy clothes. For example, watch the different outfits in the beach football and the basketball. The commentators are even taking place in the sexist, when talking about male athletes it's about their talent for the sport but when the commentators talk about women competitors, it's how they look before their talent. How many times have we already heard how good looking Stephanie Rice is or how she has modelled in her underwear. It's been more times that the fact that she is a multiple gold medallist.

And then talking about modelling, notice how Jennifer Hawkins has taken the spotlight, just because she was modelling lingerie. She appears in Channel 7's Who wants to be a Supermodel show alongside an international male model in Tyson but still she is used as a sex object and gets more coverage to lift ratings for the show

If I was PM

August 16th 2008 06:10
If I was Prime Minister of Australia, I would make sure that no-one works more than 40 hours a week, I would abolish the loan system for university students and make sure that in order for you to collect unemployment benefits you must work in some capacity.

I would make sure that every Australian has five make good days a year where if you don't feel like working on a particular day, you don't

I'm Already Over the Olympics

August 10th 2008 07:58
Stephanie Rice opened Australia's medal tally today receiving a gold medal while other Australians are homeless, or otherwise unable to provide properly for their families, or maybe they have to work extremely long hours just to make ends meet. Don't get me wrong it's good that Rice got a gold medal for Australia but what I am against is the amount of money spent on the Olympics while there are less fortunate people, even though they are just as important as our athletes, are missing out.

There should be no one in Australia homeless, there should be no Australian unable to afford a proper education for their children, there should be no Australian without a job, no one starving, there should be no one killed on our roads because the necessary funds are spent in these areas before luxuries like the Olympics

Not Costello Again!

August 3rd 2008 03:50
There’s no surprise that Peter Costello is vying for the Liberal leadership again but Australians let us not forget that Costello supports Work Choices. These choices make it easier for companies to take away more power from employees, leaving workers with little entitlements.

We can be forced to work longer hours with no overtime payments, not being able to take time off work when we need to for ourselves or for our family and basically have no life outside of work

Skills Shortages

August 2nd 2008 03:25
I've been so bogged down in work lately that I haven't had time to write my blogs. A lot of industries in Australia are suffering with the inability to attract suitably qualified staff. This causes a lot of pressure on existing staff because they have to pick up the extra workload. We are all living really busy lifestyles which leaves us not doing the things that matter like spending time with loved ones and having relaxing time for ourselves.

The Federal Government and Kevin Rudd needs to get their act together and do something to help working Australians and Australian businesses. Rudd's "education revolution" has merit because we need to entice school students to go into the careers where there are skills shortages
