The Spending Goes On

June 27th 2009 10:17
They never learn. Caught with their hands in the expenses cookie jar, any MP with a modicum of logic would know it would be a good idea to withdraw those hands and start spending some of their own money; their own wages, on items such as sweets, bars of chocolate, or any day to day household item.

Having swerved their way around the fact their expense accounts had to be shown; a requirement brought in by laws of their own making, the almost blanked out versions that appeared on the web site did nothing other than enrage the public even more than the actual thievery taking place

UK Electoral Reforms.

June 11th 2009 18:12
After being given one of the biggest political scares of his life, Prime Minister Brown has decided he does, after all, wish to listen to the people. I take his statement with more than just a grain of salt.

He states that he wants to 'clean up' parliament. The measures he has in mind to help carry out this enormous task are

PM Brown Still In Denial

June 8th 2009 18:12
The UKs unelected Prime Minister, with his cabinet of mostly unelected members seems to be in a world of his own. His party has just been hammered off the county council political map and the results of the European elections have been another rout, and yet he still insists he and his party are the only people who can drag the UK out of its financial and unemployment crisis.

In some areas of the country his party came last in the polls. The results show Labour dropping down to third place in the British contingent of the EU parliament, behind the relatively newly formed UKIP. They even lost a seat to the far right BNP and this is their worst showing in the polls for over 100 years

The People Have Spoken?

June 7th 2009 17:20
So, as predicted by experts and non-experts alike, the UK government took a good kicking at the county council elections earlier in the week. Such a kicking that they lost control of every council in their charge where voting took place.

If you noticed, the title of this post has a question mark. The reason this is so is because I'm wondering if the people have actually spoken. Only 30% of those entitled to vote actually bothered. This means that the council seats, and the hiring and firing of councillors has been done by less than a third of the people. I wonder how many of the 70% who didn't bother will now be moaning about the result

Payback time?

June 3rd 2009 17:44
The great expenses debate rages on. Members of the "Mother of Parliaments" at Westminster, London have been having a right good laugh at the expense of the hard-working taxpayers.

Claims for allowances, which, or so I believe, are to help with the running of their office and constitutional work, have been made for such things as bath-plugs, cleaning of moats, payment of council tax. The list is endless
