Our Netball Champions

It was really hard to understand why there was little coverage of this year’s Commonwealth Bank trophy winners. This trophy was awarded to the Sydney Swifts on Friday night, the winners of this year’s national netball competition.
The Sydney Swifts were the first team of any sporting code in nearly half a century to go through a sporting competition undefeated and then win overall.
So, surely, this should have been well publicised in the media. But, no it wasn’t.
For some reason, our Australian sportswomen are not considered as important as their male counterparts.
The Australian Government needs to do more in helping to increase the coverage of our Australian sportswomen.
Girls should have the same right and opportunity to have sports role models of the same sex as boys have.
Most people probably wouldn’t even be able to mention the names of ten great sportswomen in this country.
But, in any television news broadcast or newspaper coverage, ten sportsmen are probably mentioned.
So, come on, fellow Australians, let’s support our sportswomen.
An excellent opportunity will be when the Australian netball team comes up against the New Zealand Silver Ferns next month.
These teams are number one and two in the world so you can expect some quality netball.
Check out the local television guides to see when these games will be played or the highlights will probably be shown on ABC. Sit back and enjoy some highly talented sportswomen make Australia proud.
Write or ring up your local newspaper, television or radio station, and say you want to have decent coverage of netball and other women’s sport. Let them know you are interested in celebrating the achievements of our highly talented sportswomen.
Show the world that Australia is not sexist when it comes to sport.
Show Australia that we want equal opportunity for women in sport.
