The British Armed Forces
June 19th 2009 22:06
As at early 2009 the British Armed Forces consisted of the following:
Royal Navy: 38,160 (including 7,500 Royal Marines)
Army: 105,750
Royal Air Force: 43,290
There are also 3,600 Gurkhas and approximately 2,040 Full time Reserve Service personnel.
This gives a total of 192,840.
The government employes 86,970 civilians to "look after" these brave men and women, meaning a civilian is employed for every 2.2 soldiers.
As the government is forever claiming it cannot afford to spend any more money on our soldiers I would like to suggest it gets rid of about half of the civilians employed in the Ministry of Defence. The savings on wages alone would help fund the money required to at least kit out our brave men and women with the correct gear required for operational duties in places such as Afghanistan and Iraq.
While the soldiers are risking their lives with antiquated equipment and are having to purchase their own footwear amongst other things, the government (with no money to spare) continues to blithely spend thousands on plush office chairs, carpets and even flowers and potted plants for the offices of the civilian employees.
Once again, this pathetic bunch of freebie seeking, expense account hypocrites have their priorities all wrong.
Is it any wonder the young men and women of today are resisting the lure of enlisting?
The more I read and learn about this undemocratic political elite, the more I despair.
